Working with her father, Dr Isaac Golden, one of Australia’s most experienced homeopaths and world authority on Homoeoprophylaxis. Leiah has continued to specialise in this important area of homeopathy offering parents and others consultations to better inform them about their different options regarding immunisation, including providing a proven and effective natural form of immunisation.
Homeopathy is a form of holistic medicine used by over 500 million people worldwide to assist in treating a wide range of both acute and chronic conditions. Like all natural medicines, homeopathy's main aim is to treat the whole person which means taking into account; the presenting symptoms, personality and individual traits, lifestyle, diet, hereditary factors, past health history and the underlying cause of the dis-ease.
It is this unique and in-depth understanding of an individual which makes homeopathy such an effective medicine for the treatment of chronic disease and recurring conditions. When a health practitioner takes the time to understand an individual as a whole it offers them the ability to gain a true insight to the origin of their dis-ease, meaning medicines can be prescribed at this level, offering patient's a permanent cure rather than just a quick fix for the temporary relief of symptoms.
An initial consultation generally involves sitting down for an hour to discuss your presenting complaint with your practitioner then being prescribed one or several homeopathic medicines along with any supplements, herbal tonics and nutritional and lifestyle advise that may be needed to assist the healing.
As homeopathic medicines are very effective at treating mental and emotional conditions such as stress and anxiety, all homeopathic practitioners are well trained in counselling meaning sometimes during a consultation you can feel like your in the middle of a counselling session. However, how a case is taken is totally dependant on the individual complaint, if a patient walks in with a cold or whooping cough the consultation may only take 30 minutes as such conditions do not require such an in-depth consultation, so it is always tailored to the individual and what they want and need.
This is always an interesting question to answer for a homeopath as to truly understand the science behind how homeopathy works one must first feel comfortable with the concept of quantum physics, that "there is more to life than the eye can see", and with the term energy and energetic medicine.
Naturally people not adapt with these concepts or who hold a very simplistic and mechanistic view of the body and disease could find it quite difficult to comprehend and feel comfortable with how a medicine with this sphere of action can be so powerful and effective, but I will do my best to explain it in the way that I understand it.
The simple explanation is that homeopathy is a medicine based on two principals, the Principle of Similars; that a substance that produces symptoms in a healthy individual can be used to treat similar symptoms in a sick person, and the Principal of Minimum Dose; that one should only take the minimum amount of a substance required to initiate a response.
The medicines that we use to treat conditions are derived from plants, animals and minerals, but unlike naturopaths who would use the whole plant to stimulate and effect in the body, homeopaths administer these substances in there potentised form; a process which involves a series of dilutions and succussions (preformed at a homeopathic laboratory) to create the potency or strength required.
It is this potentisation process which gives homeopathic medicines the term 'energetic medicine' as there is no active molecules remaining in the newly formed substance, what is now created is the very potent energetic profile (if you like) of that substance. This medicine, with all of its know symptom picture, is then prescribed to an individual presenting with a similar symptom picture, with the intent to create an immune response stimulating the bodies ability to fight infection and susceptibility to disease.
